GiftedNYS is encouraged by New York City Mayor Eric Adams’s decision to expand access to gifted programs and by the possibilities of what this can mean for gifted education in all of New York State. Universal screening is a sound starting point on the path to meeting the gifted education needs of NYC’s diverse student population. GiftedNYS advocates for universal screening, gifted programs, and funding statewide, in all districts and zip codes, and we are grateful for the example set by Mayor Adams. We eagerly await the next steps that his leadership will take in this crucial area of educational development.
