Building a Healthier Relationship with Stress

March 2, 2026 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm EST Online

An Introduction to Mindfulness

There’s a ton of buzz these days about mindfulness, but what is it? Is it actually helpful?

Learn how present-moment mindfulness practices can play a role in reducing and reframing one’s response to stress, ultimately fostering a healthier relationship with stress. In our time together we’ll:

  • Explore what mindfulness is and isn’t (you might be surprised!)
  • Learn about some of the benefits and science behind mindfulness (yes, this is backed by research!)
  • Do some mindfulness practice and reflection.

Comfortable participation is encouraged and you will get the most out of the time by attending in a quiet space where you can arrange to minimize interruptions and distractions.

This event is free to GiftedNYS Members. Registration is required.

About the Facilitator

Amanda Christy is a mindfulness facilitator, certified by Brown University.  She has been practicing mindfulness in the ethos of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for over four years, and has personally experienced the impact of mindfulness in her own life and relationships.

She is grateful to be mom to an amazing twice-exceptional son and has an odd knack for being able to work the topic of Iceland into just about any conversation.  She is also proud to be a co-founder of GiftedNYS and currently serves as Treasurer. She has been involved in several other advocacy and peer-support initiatives over the years, including New York State Partners in Policymaking, Parent to Parent of New York State, and multiple programs with Starbridge, Inc. Previously, Amanda held various analytical and management positions in the consumer goods and healthcare sectors.  She received a B.A. in Economics from Saint John Fisher University and a M.S. in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
