At GiftedNYS, we believe that gifted learners deserve equitable opportunities to excel. As individuals, parents, and educators we share a common understanding of the excitement, goals, and challenges associated with gifted advocacy.

Join us on Saturday, December 3rd as we support one another in navigating New York's gifted landscape and work together to shift the paradigm at GiftedNYS’ Half Day Summit. Beginning at 9:00 am and concluding at 1:00 pm, the event will be held virtually on Zoom with five sessions:

• Welcome to GiftedNYS: Join co-presidents, Elizabeth Ringlee and Dr. Elissa Brown as they kick off the day with an introduction to GiftedNYS as a platform for all things gifted in New York State. They’ll share the organization’s mission, the valuable perspectives it brings to both families and educators, and how we can help you find your “yes we can” in gifted.
• Gifted Yes We Can!: Knowing where and how to start serving learners with gifted education needs can be overwhelming. Join GiftedNYS Advisory Board Members, Dr. Lois Baldwin, and Dr. Sandra Kay as they share tangible, actionable strategies that match the different characteristics of gifted learners. You’ll walk away with tips that you can immediately use at home and in the classroom to support gifted and 2e learners.
• DEI and Gifted Education: Join GiftedNYS Director of DEI Shirleen Brown Odom as she leads a panel discussion around the meaning of diversity, equity, and inclusion in gifted education and New York’s responsibility in keeping it at the forefront of gifted education programming.
• State of the State: New York has neither a mandate to identify or serve gifted learners nor state funding for gifted education leaving far too many futures to chance. Join Dr. Elissa Brown as she shares updates on the status of gifted education in New York. You’ll learn ways in which you can advocate, both at the state and local level, to bring about change, with the opportunity to do so during the session.
• Summit Meet-Up - After a learning-filled morning, we’ll finish a meet-up session in which we will come together with GiftedNYS Board and Advisory members to discuss takeaways from the day, share insights, and discuss lingering questions. Come network with other parents, educators, and individuals just like you!
