Meet Up!

Are you concerned about the academic, social, and emotional needs of all students being met?
Have you encountered misconceptions or misunderstandings about your learner’s behavior?
Are you concerned about their potential abilities being underdeveloped, underachieved, or unrecognized? If so, join fellow families and educators at a virtual meetup to discuss the needs of gifted and 2E learners in New York.

Our introductory meet-ups seek to establish an inclusive community of New Yorkers who know their learners deserve equitable opportunities to excel. Our state has neither a mandate to identify or serve gifted learners nor state funding for gifted education leaving far too many futures to chance. Join us as we support one another in navigating the gifted education landscape in New York state and work together to shift the paradigm one conversation at a time.

The meetup occurs on Monday, June 6th at 7:00 pm. Make new connections, share our experiences, and learn from one another to define the conversation and determine our agenda. Attendance is FREE. Registration is REQUIRED.

Meet Your Facilitators

At GiftedNYS, we know the challenges and opportunities of working with these creative, neurodiverse students and the possibilities for serving them. Meet your co-facilitators:

Samantha Gabrielli, GiftedNYS Director - Programs and Services, has over a decade of advocacy and K-12 classroom teaching experience in charter, public, and independent education systems. She’s passionate about using curricular design and differentiation to create safe, joyous, and challenging learning spaces for asynchronous learners.

Shirleen Odom, GiftedNYS Director - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, is currently a middle school educator with expertise in teaching students with special needs. She is also New York State certified in gifted education. Her experiences as a gifted student in New York City’s public education system have propelled Shirleen to become a committed voice for gifted, twice-exceptional, and economically disadvantaged students who are underrepresented and underserved in urban communities and rural areas.

Crystal Kaczmarek-Bogner, GiftedNYS Programs and Services Committee Member, has two school-aged children with gifted education needs. Utilizing her extensive group facilitation experience, she established a district-level networking group for parents of gifted students which she led for three years. More recently, she has been advocating for equitable gifted education at the state level.
